AfterQuery

249 active listings

AfterQuery posts category-tagged evaluation tasks across domains like coding, finance, law, medicine, math, and the sciences. Each task carries its own published pay (usually $70–$130/hr equivalent), and you apply to specific tasks rather than waiting for a placement engine. Onboarding is faster and less probing than Mercor's, making it a good fit for specialists and senior paralegals/analysts who want to choose their own work.

Is AfterQuery legit?

Researched October 14, 2026 · 2 sources

Legit company, mixed payment reviews

Yes. AfterQuery is a real, venture-backed company, but worker reviews are mixed: late payouts, slow reviews and paused projects come up repeatedly.

Who is behind it

AfterQuery was founded in January 2025 by Spencer Mateega and Carlos Georgescu and went through Y Combinator. On April 9, 2026 it announced a $30 million Series A at a $300 million valuation, led by Altos Ventures with The Raine Group, Y Combinator and BoxGroup. It says it has passed $100 million in annual revenue run rate; that figure is the company's own.

Getting paid

Pay is for approved work. Worker guides describe each week's work being reviewed after it ends and paid through Stripe on Fridays. The risk reviewers raise is on the review step: work still marked "Needs Review" when an account is closed has been described as forfeited.

Worker ratings

  • Trustpilot: 2.8 / 5

    113 reviews: 15% five-star, 21% four-star, 21% three-star, 14% two-star and 29% one-star.

What people praise

  • Described by some reviewers as a genuine operation with genuine payments
  • Clear task instructions
  • Prompt pay on approved work
  • One software engineer calls it among the best companies they have worked for

What people complain about

  • Late payouts, and in one review a payout reported as sent that never arrived
  • Accounts closed with submitted work left unpaid
  • Task and application reviews that take months, or never happen
  • Projects paused with little new work to move to
  • Slow or unresponsive support
  • Several reviewers call it a scam; these are the reviewers' own claims

Who it suits

Best for: Specialists (finance, law, medicine, science, engineering) who want to pick individual tasks and treat AfterQuery as one income source among several.

Not for: Anyone who needs predictable income, or who cannot afford to wait weeks for work to be reviewed.
