Is SME Careers legit?

Researched October 14, 2026 · 5 sources

Real, but work comes in waves

Mostly. SME Careers is SuperAnnotate's expert-hiring program, but independent evidence is thin, and the reviews we found report low project rates and uneven task volume.

Who is behind it

SME Careers (sme.careers) is operated by SuperAnnotate, an AI data company. A third-party review says contracts are issued by SME Solutions, Inc. and a domain-lookup page lists that entity as the operator, with SuperAnnotate only as a claimed parent. SuperAnnotate announced a $36 million Series B in November 2024; most outlets name Socium Ventures as lead with NVIDIA and Databricks Ventures participating, though one database lists NVIDIA as lead.

Getting paid

One July 2026 review by a contractor says pay runs weekly through Deel, for tracked time from Monday to Sunday and paid the following Friday after review. Rates are set per project: the same review reports $15/hour on its own project against advertised ceilings of $60 to $100/hour. We could not read SME Careers' own terms to confirm this.

Worker ratings

  • Trustpilot: 3.2 / 5

One review in total, and it is a one-star rating, so the 3.2 score does not reconcile with the data on the page. The reviewer says an AI interview was followed by no response. The company has not invited reviews and has not replied. Too small a sample to mean anything.

What people praise

  • A contractor writing in July 2026 reports being paid reliably each week through Deel and disputes that the platform does not pay.
  • Roles span software engineering, writing, legal, finance, healthcare and education, so credentialed professionals have somewhere to apply.

What people complain about

  • Reviewers report low odds of being selected after applying, qualified contractors waiting with empty task queues, and slow or generic responses.
  • The single Trustpilot reviewer says they were ghosted after a video interview and objects to recorded interviews being used to train models.

Who it suits

Best for: Credentialed professionals who want project-based expert evaluation work and can accept that work arrives in waves.

Not for: Anyone who needs steady weekly hours, or who expects the top advertised rate on every project.
