Mercor

364 active listings

Mercor matches credentialed senior professionals — PhDs, FAANG engineers, M.D.s, J.D.s, audit-partner-level accountants — with frontier AI labs and enterprise customers for evaluation and red-teaming work. It runs the longest, most thorough AI-led interview of the major platforms (45–90 minutes) and rejects most applicants, but the per-hour return is the highest available. Placements are spiky: intensive 2–8 week engagements at high pay, with gaps between. Payment is weekly via Stripe.

Is Mercor legit?

Researched October 14, 2026 · 4 sources

Legit, with a 2026 data-breach caveat

Yes. Mercor is a real, heavily funded company that pays contractors weekly, but work is project-based and can end without notice, and it disclosed a data breach in March 2026.

Who is behind it

Mercor announced a $350 million Series C at a $10 billion valuation on October 27, 2025, led by Felicis with Benchmark, General Catalyst and Robinhood Ventures. Felicis has said Mercor passed a $500 million revenue run rate and is profitable; that is an investor's claim, not an audited figure.

Getting paid

Contractors are paid weekly, which is the most consistent thing reviewers praise. Pay is for hours worked on a project, and projects are short: reviewers describe intensive engagements followed by gaps. Contractors are 1099, so there are no benefits and you pay your own taxes.

Worker ratings

  • Trustpilot: 4.5 / 5

1,157 reviews, 73% five-star and 9% one-star. Nearly all (1,135) were posted in the past 12 months. Mercor replies to about 4% of negative reviews.

What people praise

  • Fast, easy onboarding
  • Helpful team leads and project managers
  • Weekly payments arrive on time
  • Flexible remote work on AI evaluation projects

What people complain about

  • Contracts ending abruptly, sometimes with no explanation and before work was submitted
  • Short projects and uneven hours: a long gap can follow a good project
  • Strict identity checks and AI screening that some found intrusive
  • Support handled by an AI assistant that could not explain decisions

What has gone wrong

  • March 2026. Mercor disclosed that attackers had reached some of its systems through a compromised open-source library (LiteLLM) between March 24 and 30. Lawsuits and press reports say contractor data was taken, including government IDs, payment details and interview recordings; Mercor says only a limited subset of people had sensitive information affected and disputes the allegations.
  • April to July 2026. Contractors filed class actions starting April 1. They are reported to have been consolidated into one federal case that has been paused for mediation since July 21, with no settlement reported. Mercor offered 24 months of free credit monitoring; the enrollment deadline was October 1, 2026.

Who it suits

Best for: Credentialed professionals who can absorb gaps between projects, are comfortable sharing ID and recorded interviews, and want the highest hourly rates in the market.

Not for: Anyone who needs steady weekly hours, or who is uneasy about handing over identity documents and interview video after the 2026 breach.
