On October 11, 2026 our feed held 130 live listings that require French, from 12 platforms. Three account for most of them: Meridial (53), Prolific (31) and Welo Data (25), 109 together or 84%. Only 66 state an hourly rate in the feed, and 53 of those are Meridial's.

French is the most common language requirement in our feed, but the listings are more varied than the count suggests. Many are near-duplicates posted once per country or per city, and the platforms pay in different units. This guide covers what the work is, how each platform pays, where the listings are open and what to watch for. Every figure comes from the listings.

The kinds of French work

Speaking and recording

The largest block of conversation work is Prolific's, with 31 French listings: 14 titled Fluent French Speakers (12 for a named country and 2 for fully remote work) and 17 titled Advanced French Fluency for named cities, from Paris and Lyon to London and Berlin. The conversation listings have you join live video calls with other French speakers and chat about everyday topics while the conversation is recorded to train models. It is task-based, with no fixed schedule and no minimum hours, and you may be asked to pass a short language assessment first.

Other platforms pay for recordings. Babel Audio has a French Conversation Partner role (15-minute recorded conversations, for people in the United States and Canada) and a French voice-acting role. Welo Data lists scripted audio projects in France and Canada, and supervised recording sessions in Quebec and France. CrowdGen lists a French voice-recording project for people in France,Braintrust has an expressive voice role and photo data-collection projects for Canada, France, Switzerland and Morocco, and Mercor lists two French voice-actor roles, one for Canadian French.

Rating and evaluating French output

Welo Data's Generative AI Analyst roles for France and Canada state $18 and $20 an hour. Its other listings include maps personalization raters in Paris and Canada, a Belgian French multimedia content reviewer and a linguistic evaluator and functional tester. SME Careerslists a French Language Expert at $18 to $33 an hour, but says there is no immediate project.xAI lists an AI Tutor for French at $35 to $45 an hour, open to people in the United States and Canada. Mercor lists an Audiobook QA Expert role (French, $15 to $20 an hour, about 20 hours a week) and an audio engineer role at $50. Welo Life Sciences has two pharmacovigilance linguist roles, with no pay shown.

Subject experts who also speak French

The largest single block is Meridial's. Of its 53 French listings, 43 are domain specialists fluent in French across 13 fields: Environment, Education, HR, Insurance, Manufacturing, Finance and Healthcare (4 each), STEM, Coding, Medicine and LaTeX (3 each), Mathematics (2) and Science (1). The other 10 are language specialists, an audio evaluator and a voice actor. Outside Meridial, Mercor's Private Equity Associate role for France and Europe states $80 to $100 an hour for building a financial model of about 20 to 25 hours over 1.5 to 2 weeks, and Turing has a French-language Business Analyst role at 20, 30 or 40 hours a week, with no pay stated.

How you are paid

French listings pay in at least six different units, which makes a headline rate hard to compare.

Some listings show an hourly figure in the feed that is not how they actually pay. AfterQuery's bilingual audio listing shows $30 an hour in the feed, while its text says $50 flat per submission for a task of about 15 minutes or less. Braintrust's photo projects show $15 to $30 an hour in the feed, which the listings give as a rough estimate of what $1.00 to $2.00 per approved asset equates to at the expected pace, with actual earnings depending on how many assets pass review.

Where the listings are open

Counting the countries that listings name, Canada comes first with 24, then France and Switzerland with 15 each, Belgium with 12, Algeria with 7 and Luxembourg with 6. Canadian French is its own market: 16 of the 130 titles name Canada or Quebec. Meridial's listings are tied to specific countries, among them Switzerland (13), Canada (11), Belgium (9), Algeria (7), Luxembourg (5) and France (3), and Welo Data has Belgian French and Quebec roles.

48 of the 130 listings state no country restriction. The catches

Common questions

Do I need to be a native speaker?

It depends on the role. Prolific asks for fully fluent French. Welo Data's voice contributor listing asks for native-level speakers, Mercor's audiobook role for native or near-native fluency and Braintrust's expressive voice role for native speakers.

Which French do they want?

Several listings are variety-specific. Meridial lists French (France), French (Canada), Canadian French and French (Haiti/French Guiana) roles, Welo Data has Quebec and Belgian French roles, and Mercor has Canadian French voice work. Check which variety a listing wants before you apply.

Which platform should I try first?

For flexible conversation tasks with no minimum hours, Prolific, but its feed states no rate. For recording work with a stated rate, Babel Audio and Welo Data. For evaluation, SME Careers and, in the United States and Canada, xAI. If you are an expert in a field and speak French, Meridial has the most listings. Compare them on the pay report and see our bilingual speakers guide.
