On October 17, 2026 our feed held 101 live listings tagged Portuguese. 53 of them are one batch fromMindrift that we cover separately below, so this guide is built on the other48, from 10 platforms. 31 of those state an hourly rate in the feed, and 17 areMeridial's.

The first question in Portuguese is which Portuguese. Listings are split between Brazil and Portugal, one excludes Brazilian Portuguese, another wants Brazilian speakers who live outside Brazil, and pay varies a great deal by platform. Every number comes from the listings.

Brazil or Portugal?

Counting the countries that listings name, Brazil comes first with 14 and Portugal follows with 11, then the United States with 6 and Spain with 2. Meridial's 17 listings split into 6 for Brazil, 6 for Portugal and 5 open worldwide. A few listings are unusual:

The kinds of Portuguese work

Evaluating and rating

Turing lists two AI Quality Analyst roles at $15 an hour for 3-month engagements. Welo Data lists a Brazil culture-expert evaluation project at $20 an hour for 20 hours a week, a Portugal translation validator at $10 an hour for 2 weeks, and a Brazil Generative AI Analyst at $4 an hour for 4 weeks. SME Careers lists a Portuguese Language Expert at up to $30 an hour and a quality lead at up to $35, both open to Brazil and Portugal, though the expert listing says there is no immediate project. xAI lists an AI Tutor for Portuguese at $35 to $45 an hour, which its text says may be done from any location worldwide, subject to eligibility.

Audio, voice and transcription

Mercor's Brazilian Portuguese audio engineer role states $20 to $30 an hour. Welo Data's Hydrus Session Director role in Brazil states $50 an hour, and its Circinus projects ask contributors in Brazil and in Portugal to record 20 scripted prompts. Babel Audio lists a Portuguese transcriber at up to $110 per audio hour transcribed and a Brazilian voice actor at $60 to $150 per recorded hour depending on country. AfterQuery wants Portuguese-accented English speakers for a recording of about 15 minutes at $50 flat (the feed shows $30 an hour).

For transcription, CrowdGen's Project Lupin lists a Portuguese transcription expert at $35 in the feed, asking for at least 10 hours a week on a laptop or desktop, and micro1 lists a Portuguese Transcription Expert at $10 to $18 an hour with no description.

Subject experts who also speak Portuguese

Meridial's 17 listings include 8 domain specialists (coding, mathematics, science and STEM, each for Brazil and Portugal), 2 language specialists, 3 language alignment roles, an audio evaluator, a multimodal data contributor and 2 voice actors.

Six of Welo Data's 17 listings are on-site jobs in the United States rather than remote work: Data Labeling Associate and Speech & Voice AI Analyst roles for Brazilian and European Portuguese speakers, a Data Quality Analyst and a US-based Language Analyst, at $26 to $38 an hour.

A batch of 53 Mindrift listings, treated separately

On October 14 and 15, 53 Portuguese listings from Mindrift appeared in our feed. We have left them out of every figure in this guide, for three reasons. None of them includes a description, so the feed does not say what the work is. They are near-duplicates: all 53 sit in the same department, “Creator (Writer)”, as part-time roles located in New York, and 30 of the titles promise $100 an hour and 11 are pitched at students. And they are open only to people in the United States, although they target European Portuguese speakers.

We cannot tell from the listings what these are, and they may be genuine research recruitment. But they read differently from the rest of the guide, so verify the work on Mindrift's own site before you apply, and never pay anything to be considered.

The catches

Common questions

Which variety has more listings?

Brazil is named in more listings (14 against 11), but the gap is small and several listings are open to either variety. Check which one each role wants.

Can I work from Brazil or Portugal?

Yes, for many. Meridial has 6 listings for each, Welo Data has projects in both and SME Careers lists Brazil and Portugal. Babel Audio's Brazilian voice-actor role is the exception: it wants speakers outside Brazil.

Which platform should I try first?

For a stated rate and a clear task, Welo Data's $20 Brazil project and Mercor's audiobook roles. For breadth, Meridial. Compare them on the pay report and see our bilingual speakers guide.
