About this role

Opportunity Overview Handshake is looking for speech-language pathologists to support AI research through flexible, part-time contract work. This is not a traditional job. You’ll draw on your clinical training and hands-on experience in communication and swallowing disorders, including speech sound disorders, language disorders, fluency, voice, and dysphagia, to evaluate AI-generated content and provide feedback that helps AI reason like a practicing speech-language pathologist. The Handshake AI program runs year-round, with project opportunities opening periodically across different areas of expertise. This is an ongoing, project-based opportunity you can take on alongside your current role. What You’ll Do Use your clinical expertise to create expert-level tasks that today’s top AI models can’t solve, based on real clinical workflows such as assessment, diagnosis, treatment planning, therapy activities, and patient and caregiver counseling Review and evaluate AI-generated responses for clinical accuracy, appropriateness, and alignment with current speech-language pathology practice and guidelines Provide clear, structured written feedback to help improve AI model performance Work remotely and complete tasks at your own pace, with no set schedule or minimum hour requirement Qualifications Degree: Completed master’s degree or higher in Speech-Language Pathology, or currently enrolled in a graduate SLP program Credentials: Holds or is eligible for the ASHA Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC-SLP) or a state SLP license Clinical depth: Working knowledge in one or more of the following areas: Speech sound, articulation, and motor speech disorders (including apraxia and dysarthria) Child language, literacy, and developmental disorders Adult neurogenic communication disorders (aphasia, cognitive-communication) and traumatic brain injury Swallowing disorders (dysphagia) Fluency and voice disorders Augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) Additional qualifications (not required, but strengthen your application) Experience across multiple clinical settings, such as schools, hospitals, rehabilitation centers, skilled nursing facilities, early intervention, or private practice, or with assessment tools and telepractice platforms Bilingual or multilingual clinical experience, specialty certification (e.g., board certification in child language or swallowing), or involvement in clinical research Required for all applicants Must have US work authorization Strong written communication and attention to detail Ability to explain complex speech, language, and swallowing concepts clearly Do not share patient health information or identifiable patient data Ability to work independently in a remote, asynchronous environment
